Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder! How, you may ask, does this relate to karoake? It does! For instance, my husband, whom I will refer to as Jack, hates karaoke. Jack would rather take a bullet than stand up in front of people and talk, much less sing. Needless to say, I go to karaoke with the girls and he plays golf with the boys.

The only time he goes to karaoke with me is in Vegas. We love Harrahs! He goes to the tables and circulates back to be my pity-date periodically. I gamble some, but I go to Vegas because I love to sing. He cringes when he hears singers hit one sour note and heads quickly back to the tables. Poor boy! I find these folks very interesting and pretty funny (see below*).

The funny thing about this scenario is that one of the worst karaoke performances I have seen, involved my husband, Jack. I had arranged a surprise birthday party for him. Of course, there was karaoke, since there were work and non-work people that I wanted to interact. Jack’s boss’ wife wanted to sing, “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers. Now, that is a tough song! Nobody was willing to embarress themselves that much! She was pretty disappointed.

Well, my husband is nothing if not a kind and gentle man. Take note ladies: This is why I married him. So Jack agreed to sing it with her. Neither of them could carry a tune in a bucket, so even I had to hold my ears.
